With the markets closed in the US and UK, we expect little movement today. The loonie is currently trading at right around Friday’s closing levels. Equities are up in Asia and oil and other commodities are generally flat. Over the weekend, the concern over US/China trade and geopolitical tensions has further ramped up. The economic data and earnings reports in the week ahead should begin to give us a more clear picture of the economic damage done by the pandemic and the possible shape of the recovery. In Canada, GDP numbers on Friday will be especially closely watched.
